Our nursery environment and facilities enable your child to explore, develop and learn. Our Baby, Toddler and Preschool spaces are specially designed and equipped especially with them in mind. You’ll see many familiar homely items such as bookcases, tables, chairs, and sofas just much smaller than you are used to!

We consider the spaces around your child to be like their third teacher, joining you as parents and us as educators in guiding them through their learning. And you’ll notice how we use our garden area as an outdoor classroom too, full of features to support their play and learning. Our Baby, Toddler and Preschool rooms are perfect for the ages of children that spend their time in them.

We keep many aspects of our nursery environments consistent as we know your child will benefit greatly from this. With core resources, enriching toys, games and creative materials, that are always at hand for your child to play with. However, it is not unusual for parts of our nurseries to become unique adventure places where your child’s imagination can run free!

Babies Environment

Babies spend their day in a large, bright open plan day room, well equipped with activities, toys and learning resources suitable for their age. There is also a messy play area where they are encouraged to explore, develop and grow through the use of creative activities led by our fantastic staff.

Throughout the day, music is played in the room. Combined with the baby mobiles which hang from the ceiling and other resources in the room, this helps to create a calm and soothing atmosphere where our youngest children can feel safe and secure.

The babies also have a changing room, milk preparation area and dedicated sleep room where they are provided with their own bedding and is continually monitored and checked during its use.

Toddlers Environment

The Toddlers spend their day in a large, well-resourced room. Alongside the general learning resources and toys you would expect to see within a nursery, the room also has a well-stocked book corner, construction area and IT system. They also benefit from a dedicated home corner which is regularly rotated to provide our children with excellent opportunities to role-play. The open plan space allows the flexibility to include a “messy area” for children to develop their sensory experiences.

As part of our nursery curriculum, the Toddler room also benefit from extracurricular activities. These fun-based exercise classes teach the children about different parts of the body and the changes they notice when they exercise.

As an extension to the room, the children have free flow between indoors and outdoors areas, allowing them to continue their learning experience in both environments.

The room has provisions for children who are potty training and our staff work with parents to help ease the transition from nappies to being toilet trained. The toddlers also have access to their own toilets, nappy changing area and small sinks at their height allowing them to help encourage them to be self-sufficient as they are toilet trained.

Preschool Environment

The Preschool is divided into two open plan areas. This caters for our 3-5 year old children and the structured days helps to build their daily routines, eventually preparing them for their transition to school.

The room is equipped with a wide selection of resources for the children to explore throughout the day. These include a cosy book corner, role play area, creative area for messy play, and free play areas. The children have access to a “Touch Table” computer which is designed to familiarise the children with essential skills as well as a variety of IT resources and also helps to build fine motor skills. Combined with guided activities from our staff, our Preschool Room encourages our children to participate in a well-structured day which helps prepare them for primary school.

As part of our nursery day, the preschool children benefit from a range of extracurricular activities throughout the week. These are included in our fees and come at no extra cost to our parents. These activities provide even more opportunities for our children to explore and learn, whilst encouraging them to be healthy and active whilst using their imaginations to explore different ways to be creative.

Our Preschoolers also have access to their own brightly decorated toilets with sinks in the room, all of which are at the appropriate height for the children. These facilities encourage their independence and personal hygiene.

Outdoor Environment

Monkey Puzzle Cheshunt has a large, secure garden that the children can access throughout the day. Our beautiful garden area contains a variety of activities and equipment for the children to enjoy. These allow our children to explore the outside world whilst developing their social skills and enjoying all of the benefits of being outside in the fresh air.

The garden is split into several areas, including the latest impact-resistant surface to ensure peace of mind when any tumbles occur. We also have a large artificial grass area, as well as a “mud kitchen” where they are encouraged to promote their knowledge and understanding of the world.

Our children also enjoy trips into the local community and places of interest such as local parks and shops, furthering their understanding of the world around them, and also enjoy regular visits from people within the community, such as the fire service and police.
